We played Troy for homecoming last night - which we did surprisingly well actually. We ended up losing in the end 40-20 although we were up for a substantial part of the game. This brings me to a point I'd like to make about shooting for a slideshow for any news outlet or publication. Journalism teaches you to look at things from both sides and cover things and events fairly. When we turned in our shots from the game last night the slideshow we turned out I feel like did not show both sides. It is very frustrating to me because people say "well we lost" or "it's hard to cover a team that's losing all the time." I agree with this - it is very draining to cover a team that all they do is lose. But, at the same time you have to cover the game on both sides. If we score a touchdown and they celebrate, I feel a shot is needed to show it. Even if the team loses it is still important to show the team winning. Why is this important? Well when viewers that did not go to the game look at your slideshow and all they is a team that is losing, that is not fair to the team. This is why it is very important to understand the game. What are some of the key points? Even though Western lost they still were ahead during a portion of the game against a team that is doing really well in the Sun Belt. Do our pictures from the game last night show that? No. They just show one side of a team that is losing. That, in my opinion, is the wrong way to cover a game. It's unfair, bias, unobjective and lazy.
If you haven't figured it out yet, I'm pretty frustrated with our coverage of the game last night. I always try to look at both sides of everything and cover it chronologically when doing a slideshow. I feel when doing it this way it creates a very unbiased point of view. Anyway, here are some photos from the game last night. Some celebrating, some with their heads held low.
Thanks for reading.
